As I think you can see the images taken with these two Voigtlander m-mount lenses are very sharp indeed. They do somewhat overshadow all the current native NEX AF lenses with the exception of the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8. While I've written often enough about how the NEX lenses are often undervalued, that is when compared to other mirrorless / CSC / E.V.I.L lenses. In that context they are pretty much the same.

However when m-mount lenses have something "to get their teeth into", such as the 24MP of the Sony NEX-7, they do, as you can see, tend to put other lenses "in their place". These two, the 35mm f/1.2 Nokton and the 75mm f/2.7 Heliar are two of the finest examples of the Voigtlander range, and both stand comparison with any Leica lenses I've used. The 75mm, once you get away from its somewhat CA and purple fringed wide apertures, can be spectacularly sharp. This is actually an old screw mount lens, and I've got two adapters on it, one to turn it into an m-mount and one to fit that onto the NEX, but its a wonderful lens.

Back in the days (So long ago!!) of 12MP m4/3, I often wrote about how using m-mount lenses was somewhat of an extravagance, since it was difficult to see any significant increase in resolution. Not so, however, with the mighty NEX-7 24MP sensor. To be honest, I was a little surprised at just how good these lenses are when they are stopped down. I have only briefly used the 35mm to take a few "camera porn" shots, and then wide open, so I haven't really given either of them a really good test.

By the way please excuse the spelling mistake in the top enlargement shot. Voigtlaner isn't a new brand of lens, its just my error!

UPDATE - If you saw this post before I changed it - I've decided not to do yet more tests. I'm actually getting quite fed up with them, and I'd rather be taking or editing pictures. So I'll be bringing this "review" to a close, with a conclusion quite soon. I'll continue feeding in my experiences with the NEX-7 in future posts, but its time to draw this to a halt now. At least you are spared more pictures of dusty guitars!!

Heres a bit more camera porn instead.
